Forces Exercises

Examples, Answers

Exercise 1.

Two cows pull at a cart. One cow pulls to the east with a force A. The other cow pulls to the north with a force B. Find the resultant force for each of the following cases:

(a) A = 1000 N, B = 2000 N
(b) A = 2000 N, B = 2000 N
(c) A = 3000 N, B = 2000 N
(d) A = 4000 N, B = 2000 N

Exercise 2.

A cow pull at a cart in a direction between north and east. Resolve into components and long the east and the north for each of the following forces from the cow:

(a) 3000 N, 20° to the east
(b) 3000 N, 40° to the east
(c) 3000 N, 60° to the east
(d) 3000 N, 80° to the east

Exercise 3.

A cow pulls at a cart with a force A to the east. A second cow pulls at a cart with a force B to the north. A third cow pulls at the cart so that the cart is at equilibrium. Find its force for each of the following forces from the cow:

(a) A = 1000 N, B = 1000 N
(b) A = 1000 N, B = 2000 N
(c) A = 1000 N, B = 3000 N
(d) A = 1000 N, B = 4000 N
